Do You Need a Website?
It is nearly impossible to find an advertisement or a commercial without an internet domain name associated with it. Companies want potential customers to visit a website in order to get more information on their business products and services. But, does a small business need a website, especially if the company has a product or service that is geared for a very specific local market, as opposed to the entire internet-connected world? Yes. A website only enhances a small business’ marketing effort, no matter how big or small the targeted audience. Providing Information Most people who use the web do so to gather information. That information can be anything – sports scores, breaking news, even recipes for meat loaf. The internet is also used as a way to get information on products before a purchase. A web site with information on the product a small business provides is a resource available to people around the world. Small business websites get the name of the business positioned to be seen, especially by the targeted market expected to purchase the product. Replacing the Phone Book Which is easier: typing information into a web search engine box or paging through a phone book? The phone book will provide information only if the potential client already knows the name of the business or knows where in the Yellow Pages to look for a particular service. Through a web search, however, potential customers will get a link to the small business’ website. The potential client may have otherwise been unaware of the business or the services it provides. Plus, a website allows the small business to share more in-depth information about the company’s products and services, provide an on-line map and directions and give much more information than would be available in a simple advertisement in a phone. Keep It Customer Friendly Like any other marketing strategy, a website should be customer friendly. Some web developers want to use every type of bell and whistle available or overload the website with graphics. It is important to remember that not every potential client will be using high speed connections or the newest computer systems. If a website takes too long to download or is too “busy” with flashing banners and other details, potential customers will often leave the site. The trick to a successful business website is in making the site interesting enough that it encourages the potential customer to stick around, without being confusing and convoluted. feedback@whymarket.com |
